Haden's Birth Story
Wednesday night I waited for a call from the hospital to see if they would be able to take me for induction the next morning. When I finally got the call, I was told to call at 7:30 the next morning to see if they would have room for me. But it was a possibility they would be too busy because I was the 4th on their list for induction that day.
I almost wasn't worried about being able to go in, because I had been having contractions from about 4:30pm until I went to sleep that night, I thought for sure I'd go into labor with out their help. But by the next morning my contractions had slowed down and didn't start back up until we were headed for the hospital around 11am to be induced.
we got to the hospital around 11:30. It took about an hour to get all paper work done and then I was admitted at 12:30pm. Turns out I was already dialated to a 3 almost 4 and 80% effaced. Yay! My contractions payed off, I'd been worried since they had stopped, that they weren't real. The nurse hooked me up the pitocin and put me on the lowest setting because I was already contracting so well on my own. Every time the nurse talked to my doctor he'd tell her "Turn up the Pit!" So after an hour and 15min, he came in and broke my water. 15min later, I was having hard, painful contractions. Had I known how fast the contractions would come on, I'd have had my epidural right away. Needless to say I learned my lesson: Get the epidural when you walk in the door!
I was next in line to get my epidural, but the anesthesiologist took forever! Then he ran out of some kind of spray he needed to cool my skin, my contractions were so bad, I was sweating so much, he couldn't get the tape to stick. So he had to go search for the spray and I had to suffer even longer before he got me all hooked up. Meanwhile, the nurse and Danny were trying to get me through the contractions, I keep hearing the nurse say "She's changing." Sure enough, the reason I had no relief from the epidural, was because in the time it took (around 45min) for the anesthesiologist to get me all hooked up, I had fully dialated. They turned me on my back and Haden was ready to come out (about 2:56pm).
While all this was going on, my mom had tried to take Landon home for a nap, but got stuck on the freeway because of an accident. She got him home, put him to bed and turned around and sped back to the hospital and ran in the room just in time.
I pushed about 5-6 times and Haden was born 3:02pm. About 6 min from the time they turned me over after the epidural was hooked up. Lucky for me, I was mostly numb and had no pain for the delivery. All I could feel was little feet up in my left ribs. I almost missed my epidural, it barely caught up on my pain for the delivery. I was so relieved, I cried every time I thought about how much pain I had been in. It was a really strange emotion.
Total labor and delivery time: 2 hours 27 minutes! The nurses said I was the record for the day!

I'm feeling ok, if I keep up on my meds I don't have any problems. The only strange thing was last night getting ready to go to bed, I stood up and all of a sudden I was so cold I was shaking uncontrollably. I couldn't get warm and the shaking made my body hurt. Dan buried me in blankets, while trying to get Haden's bed ready. I finally got the shaking to slow down, and relaxed a little. Unfortunately I had to get up the go to the bathroom and get ready for bed. As soon as Dan lifted to blanket off me, the shaking started again. We hurried to the bathroom and I got ready for bed as fast as I could while shaking and bawling from the pain it was causing. He put me back to bed, buried me again and gave me two heating pads. I feel asleep for an hour then woke up so hot I had to completely uncover. The rest of the night I was hot and sweaty but my skin was cold. I started to worry that something was going wrong with my body. Dan worried I had a fever but couldn't find a thermometer to check. I still have no idea what in the world happened.

First time meeting "Baby Bruher". Landon was so excited for about 60 seconds, lucky we were able to get such a great picture. He lost interest pretty quickly :)

Then we gave him a present from "Baby Bruher". My mom says he played with it the rest of the day.

Landon is so cute, he actually wanted to hold him a couple times this morning. He's still a little unsure when Haden screams, but he's doing pretty well I think.

  1. wow! It's amazing how every delivery is so different and completely unpredictable - that's why there's not sense in trying to 'plan' too much because the unexpected will probably happen. Glad you are both well! Glad Landon was happy - super cute pictures of the boys!

  2. Eeek! He is so so cute! I can't stand how cute that picture of Landon with his baby brother are. I am so happy for you guys! How crazy your labor went so fast too. I am glad that epidural kicked in fast! Oh! When I was in the hospital after I had Ollie I got the chills so bad right when my milk came in. Maybe that is what was going on with you? I was shaking and had like 5 heated blankets on me and I wore my jacket and my sisters. It lasted only an hour or two and then I felt fine. Right after when I fed Ollie I noticed my milk had come in a little. So i asked the doctor and he said that chills can be a symptom. I don't know if was the same for you. I hope everything is okay. When will you guys be accepting visitors? John and I want to come. We'll leave the grubby kids with a babysitter though so they don't spread their nasty germs to Haden.
