New Hobby

Knitting!
This blue baby hat was my first attempt at knitting. I had to look up all the different stitches online to figure out how to do them. Not bad for a first try, eh?

This black hat is the same pattern as the blue but I decided the little tie was a bit to baby for a big boy like Landon. So I had a friend teach me how to close the hat using double point needles. On this one I was actually able to do the ribbing (black part) like the pattern said and keep the seeding stitch (mulit colored part) on track.

A hat for myself! The beautiful design in this one is called cabling. You need a cable needle for it or it's a huge pain in the butt. So after I bought a cable needle I actually enjoyed doing it.

This striped green hat I started last night. It is a pattern you do on two aluminum straight needles and make a flat pattern as opposed to a round needle which is two short needles connected to a cord which make the pattern connected so you don't have a seem anywhere. All the above patterns used a bamboo 16" round needle. The bamboo is much easier to work with. On the metal its a little harder to control because its slippery. So after 3 times taking it off and starting over I was able to use the metal needles. I don't particularly like the metal but now know I'm capable of using them. I don't like having to sew up a seem either so I'll stick to the round needle patterns.

Since I decided I really like knitting, I got a interchangeable knitting needle set for my birthday, which means I have several different sized needles and 2 sizes of cables that you can change to make different lengths on different sized needles. (If that makes any sense).
I'm so excited about them! My next project I'm going to attempt will be a toddler sweater or vest. Wish me luck!

  3. Very cute Kristen. I've knitted a few baby blankets before, but these hats are adorable. I've just learned how to crochet -- I made a headband with a cute flower on it. So fun!
