Tumbling Tots/Landon Lately

So at the beginning of the month, I got the City activities book and started looking through it. I came across Tumbling Tots and thought it could be fun to try. I figured Landon would love it. I was so excited I signed up immediately (If you know me well, you would know that is very unlike me to sign up for something like this, I have a lot of anxiety over new social things and normally would have tried to find a friend to sign up with me or not dared do it at all, I'm thinking my pregnancy hormones have something to do with my random, strange personality differences). Classes are 45 min. long twice a week for about 5 weeks.
So on Valentines day was our first class, there's 6 kids total and a parent with each. The teacher shows the kids different exercises to do on the different equipment and then the kids take turns doing them.
Well Landon didn't like taking turns, obviously I can't blame him because he's never had to before... He ran from me every moment I let him go and threw fits when I wouldn't let him do what he wanted. By the end of class I was embarrassed and not so excited about it anymore. Luckily the teacher gives free time after so the kids can practice their favorite things. That's how I was able to get these pictures without Landon "snotting" on the mats and throwing fits :)

2nd class, Daddy wanted to come, I was so relieved when it wasn't me dealing with the fits (which weren't nearly as bad as the first time). Landon loves the parts when they sing. He actually participated and waited turns, which was still a little difficult but he managed. Our next class tomorrow and I'm hoping he'll behave even better.

Landon Lately (2 years 2 months)
he knows his alphabet, numbers 1-10, 12 and will say "fihf-teen" for the rest.
Phrases- Where'd it go?
I don't know
Come Mom/Daddy
Wait-a-me! (This one is my favorite)
Cereal, that!
Where's Daddy?
Sorry Mom/Daddy

He say many words, gotten really good at "No"

Even though he can say so much, we deal with many fits, most of the time we don't even know what the fit is about. He understands me when I ask him to do something, even though he ignores the request at least half the time, he very good at tuning me out.

He still signs "Milk" and "More"

He literally only eats
Cereal
Crackers-Favorite are Wheat Thins
Some cookies
"The right shaped" french fries
Yogurt
Pudding
Bananas
Used to eat strawberries but it's been so long he probably wont anymore
Granola bars
Pop Tarts
Gold fish, only in the little carton you usually see at check out

He stopped eating well around 13-15 months, he used to eat all baby food and would try most things. Now we just get told "No". He won't try things, even if we manage to get something in his mouth he doesn't taste it, just spits it out. I tried cutting food into the shape of Mickey Mouse's head, that didn't work either.
Although this is frustrating, it's not anything new to this family. My brother was the same way, still doesn't eat most meat but has tried many new things. He actually eats things that I won't eat now. Also my best friend growing up was the exact same way.
When we talked to the doctor at Landon's 1.5 year appointment, we were told to offer new food often and make the "usual's" less available. Well I can tell you from experience that you cannot force a 2 year old to eat anything he doesn't want to.

Sometimes he has a bit of obsessive tendencies (I do too so it doesn't surprise me) For example, he has 4 trains that hook together and if you don't hook them in the right order he gets mad. Bed time and wake up routines, must be preformed the same. New clothes and definitely shoes either won't be worn with out a fit or have to be chosen by him, he recently got new shoes and will only wear them because they are Disney Cars theme.

He got an awesome Schwinn trike for Christmas, we put it on our large family room so he could practice for when we have warm weather. He loves it and even though he can't reach the pedals, he is learning how turning works. I can't wait to take it outside!

  1. that's so great, Kristin, to have found a cool class like that for landon. looks like he's already adapting and starting to cooperate.

i love how smart he is. it's inspiring for me to keep up with carter's abc's and numbers.

carter's picky too. it drives me nuts sometimes. luckily for me he'll go in phases and kind of come and go with his likes and dislikes. meats are tricky, however he really loved chinese beef and brocoli last week. go figure
