I gave Landon his first haircut after he fell asleep last night. Yes, asleep. I didn't dare do it while he was awake. I was afraid I'd end up taking an ear off with how much he moves. I figured he would want to see the scissors or play with the comb. I think it turned out pretty well! If you have seen him recently then you would know he was growing a mullet and his bangs were poking him in the eyes and his ears were getting shaggy. No more mullet! He looks so cute with is new haircut. It's just a shorter version (minus mullet) of what he had :)
I tried to touch up the back a little this morning with him awake. He wouldn't have any of it. He kept pulling away and turning around.
Although it was very awkward to cut his hair with him asleep in my lap, but I think it was the way to do it!
Landon had his 12 month Dr. appointment on Friday. We had kinda been looking forward to it because we have been having problems with sleeping habits and wanted advice from his doctor. Landon would fight going down for naps and sometimes not take one at all. He would fight going down for bed and then would wake up again 2-3 hours later. When he would wake up in the middle of the night we could spend between 20-60 min putting him back to sleep by holding and rocking him and still when we would go to put him in the crib he would wake back up alert like he wasn't sleeping at all, he would scream if we put him down. So we told the doctor what we were dealing with and how hard it was. His doctor told us that he was a "conditioned crier" (or something like that) and that we were going to have to retrain him for good sleeping habits. He said we weren't allowed to hold him or rock him to sleep anymore. We can sing or read to him but then we have to put him to bed wide awake. Of course he screams. He gets so mad I think he might explode! He once screamed for 40 min straight! Anyway the doctor told us to go in every 15 min and reassure him that if he needs us that we will be there. If his adrenaline is going and he can't calm himself down (which happens every time) we can hold him until he calms (standing in front of the crib) and put him right back in the crib as soon as he's quieted. We have just been going in and letting him touch our hands while he stands in the crib and we rub his back. (I figure it will be harder if we pick him up..) Then we leave the room again and he cries a little bit more then gives up and goes to sleep! The doctor said it could take 2-3 weeks to get him trained. I hope for my sanity and Dan's sleep, it goes much quicker.
The crying is hard. I think that's how we got ourselves into this little problem. We would hold him instead of letting him cry.
I know no one wants advice forced on them, but being a parent and dealing with this, I wish I could have done it differently.
My advice is to put your baby in their bed for naps and at bedtime (awake if possible). Don't hold them while they sleep. Don't rock them to sleep. Be willing to let them cry as long as they are fed and changed and are not sick. It doesn't hurt them. Start good sleeping habits early so you aren't dealing with it when they are much louder and can get up or sit up. I hope my advice can help you!
Now for the fun stuff! This is on the exam table at the Dr. office. He was having so much fun!
Landon's Stats are... Height: 29.25"-33.58 percentile. Still a shorty!
Weight: 20.66lbs-19.12% He didn't gain much from last time (19.97lbs) The doctor said it could be from getting less calories. But I think is cuz he is walking, mostly running everywhere.
Head circ: 18.75"-83.91% Yes. My baby has a huge brain! He is such a smarty!

We had lots of fun for Landon's birthday.
This was the first gift opened, I thought for sure he would just rip through all the wrapping paper because he is a paper shredder, but he didn't care about opening anything.
He couldn't wait for me to get the cars out of the package. (Thank you Miller family!)
This is his most favorite toy, the vacuum. He first played with one at Grandpa and Grandma Grotegut's house so we thought we would get one. As soon as it was open nothing else mattered. We had to hide it so he would pay attention to the rest of the gifts.
Here's the cake..
After we sang to him and I blew out the candle, he reached up and touched the hot wick and cried. First taste of frosting. He didn't really get into the cake, but this is a cute picture. (It makes ya think he enjoyed it!) After everyone left, he and Daddy played with his toys for probably 45 min. Fun stuff! There's lots more pictures and fun toys but too many to post. Thank you everyone!
Today Landon was sitting with Grandma at the computer and there was a container of raisins sitting close by. He started pointing like he wanted them. Grandma gives him the container and he starts working on getting it open. All of a sudden we hear a scream/cry, (that we'd never heard before) we both think he's throwing a fit over nothing and look to see what the deal is. He had gotten the container open and was trying to back away from it, both hands in the air, like "get it away from me!". Grandma picks up a few raisins and holds them out to him and asks if he wants some. He screams and tries to back away again.
Landon is afraid of raisins.

Landon is turning 1! We will be having a birthday party for him, with pizza, cake and ice cream! It will be Wednesday December 16th at 7pm My house! Hope you can come! (Let me know if you will be there so we know how much food to get)
Poor kid immediately face planted in the snow, he didn't cry though. He liked watching the dogs play, but wasn't too sure what he was supposed to to with all the cold white stuff.
We went out a second time later today, he laughed at the dogs and actually started bouncing his arms like he was playing. Snow works really well for wearing him out before naps. He took to naps today that were longer then an hour! Which is amazing for him, his regular naps are between 30-60min.
Well I had two videos of Landon playing in the snow but they won't load, I think my internet is too slow today..
